Website-urile retail isi obtin 25% din trafic prin motoarele de cautare, conform Hitwise(leaderul serviciilor de inteligenta competitiva online). Si cu cat mai multa informatie ofera retailerii internetului, cu atat mai mult clientii isi vor face cumparaturile la magazinele lor si se vor intoarce la site-urile lor.Motoarele de cautare si-au intensificat rolul lor de a trimite vizitatori la site-urile de shopping cu 0.7 % din mai 2006 pana in mai 2007 si Google a trimis cel mai mult trafic, conform raportului Hitwise emis saptamana aceasta.Un alt sondaj a anuntat saptamana aceasta ca exista toate sansele pentru cumparatori de a cumpara din magazinele traditionale si a se intoarce la site-ul retailerilor care ofera informatii complete despre produs.Cautarile de un singur cuvant, incluisv cautarile de domeniu si URL au reperezentat 23.7% din termenii de cautare care trimit traficul catre site-urile specializate de shoppping.O crestere de 20 de procente a cautarilor de un singur cuvant incepand cu mai 2005, sustine cresterea utilizarilor toolbar-urilor- ca mijloc principal de facilitare a navigarii pe World Wide Web.Site-urile de tip retea sociala determina de asemenea un procentaj mic al vizitelor pe site-urile de shopping specializate. Conform Hitwise primele 20 de retele sociale online si-au crescut influenta asupra site-urilor de retail cu 86.7% din mai 2006 pana in mai 2007. Deloc surpinzator, MySpace cea mai populara retea sociala, a fost raspunzator pentru aproape intregul procentaj.
