CBS Corp.(CBS) a achizitionat site-ul Last.fm Ltd pentru suma de 280 milioane d dolari, imprimandu-se si mai mult in industria muzicala, industrie in care era odata unul dintre jucatorii principali. Scopul este sa atraga tineri catre brandul CBS. Last.fm, fondat in 2002, are peste 15 milioane de utilizatori activi in peste 200 de tari si are ca domeiu principal muzica. The WallStreet journal, citand oameni familiari cu situatia, a raportat acum 2 saptamani ca CBS era in tratative cu Last.fm si Facebook Inc. , pentru a da dreptul utilizatorilor sa posteze videoclipuri apartinand CBS pe profilele proprii. "Last.fm este una din cele mai bine inradacinate comunitati online existente si inregistreaza cresteri foarte mari", a declarat Presedintele si Directorul Executiv al CBS Leslie Moonves. A mai adaugat si ca asezarea "demografica" a siteului joaca un rol deosebit in atragerea tinerilor spectatori si ascultatori. Utilizatori isi pot expune oricare din statiile salvate (sau playlisturile), impreuna cu melodiile salvate recent. Partea interesanta este ca playerul Flash poate fi adaugat profilelor chiar dak utilizatorii nu detin un cont Last.fm; aplicatia creeaza un playlist in cunctie de melodiile din sectiunea "favorite music" - ceea ce coboara cu mult barierele de incercare a serviviului. De asemenea utilizatorii pot vedea toate statiile prietenilor pe o singura pagina, pot vedea cine asculta muzica in momentul respectiv si pot avea acces la muzica ascultata cu un singur click. Utilizatorii mai pot sa isi compare gusturilemuzicale cu ale altor utilizatori Facebook prin serviciul Taste-o-meter furnizat de Last.fm. Last.fm detine contracte cu mari marci ca EMI, Warner si The Orchard, si ar fi reprezentat o buna achizitie pentru orice casa de discuri. Last.fm se prezinta intr-o forma mult mai buna decat competitorul sau, Pandora, care este atacata din toate partile de probleme de licente - cu un public dedicat ar putea totusi sa se puna din nou pe picioare.
